25 years of transporting children and vulnerable adults to schools, day centres and outings has given me invaluable experience into the problems and best strategies that can be employed in executing this kind of transport. Working with many councils in West Berkshire and beyond it has been apparent for some time that suitable training for staff carrying out these journeys is lacking and not fit for purpose in many cases. The rise in the SEND classification of child transport and those with complex needs with EHCP statements qualifying them for school transport assistance is becoming a major part of school transport and shows no sign in abating. With this in mind Face to Face training was set up to address specific training for passenger assistants and drivers including those requiring wheelchair transport and the correct fitting of child seats and booster seats.
